Story of Surrender

By lostrequiem

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

You came into my life like a breath of fresh air rescuing me from the staleness of a love long abandoned. Sweeping me off my feet without knowing your own strength. This power over me, exerted through your casual glances, your knowing smiles. Vulnerable and open, I was merely your toy like a lump of new clay I presented myself to be shaped and moulded into something you'd want. Begging you to change me into something better, seeking your ever elusive approval. Pining away quietly to myself while those around me welcomed you to our world And snatched you from me with their covert embraces. I would have surrendered long ago if there hadn't been some distant glimmer of hope A window of opportunity that I could see but couldn't quite open. I wonder if its key is long lost, if this window is my oasis, but only a mirage. A wilting flower trudging toward one last hope Only to find it was an illusion all along.
