If I Had Been At the Cross
If I Had Been At the Cross If I had been at the cross I would have twitched at every crack of a whip My eyes would have become blurred From the tears that poured down my face Sometimes I would have had to turn my head Away from the unbearable sight I would have cried so hard for so long Until my stomach ached Weakened from crying I would have fallen to the ground And buried my face in my hands But I would have pulled my hands away from my face And the tears would have stopped As Jesus cried out to God, "Father please forgive them for they know not what they do." Astounded by his words I would have buried my face in my hands again And start to weep some more As I would have heard him gasping for his last breaths I would have noticed myself struggling too And as Jesus hung there Life-less on the cross I would have found myself to be one of the last people to leave The death eaten scene But I know that I would have fully understood the concept of That pain That suffering That blood All that was for me Written March 27th, 2002 © on Mar 27 2002 08:22 AM PST 10 • 0 • 13
