For Those Who Will CelebrateA Sixtieth Birthday in 2001Such a long time ago,Nineteen-forty-one.Not as long to you as it would seem to some. What events we've seenIn this last sixty years.America at war that yearMoved a world to tears.Nineteen fifty-one we sawFamily as number one.In God We Trust meant somethingTo every Mother's son.Nineteen sixty-one a war We couldn't understand.Jungles, snipers, mud and rain,A land called Viet Nam.Nineteen seventy-one TIMENamed him The Man of the YearRichard Milhous NixonAnd heard a nation cheer.Nineteen eighty-one we sawOne small built Polish manStand solidly up for freedomLech Walesa said, 'We can, we can, we can!'Nineteen ninety-one brought to usMid-Eastern conflict sore.Missiles, Scuds and Minuteman,A futuristic war.Sixty years a gift of this we're sureAnd it's no mysteryThis little gift we give to you,Your life outlined in historyThe future decades will passNo matter what we doWe wish they hold only the bestOf times and joy for you.
