The Darkest Hour
By Nameless
These feelings and thoughts I cannot chase, That takes me to this unknown place. Darkest shadows that won't subside, For daylight lives not in my mind. The road is lit, the way is clear, So far away, yet still so near. Nothing can express the pain, Of this child lost in the rain. When he grows will he be proud, Or just a face within the crowd? For one cause he gives his most, Seeks his dreams, or chases ghosts. This is the way he chose to go, Through summer's heat, and winter's cold. These deep voids cannot be filled, Night so dark, wind so still. To walk these endless stairway steps, So many gone, so many left. He tries to do what he thinks is right, He's pushed back further into the night. The sun will rise but not dispell, Blackened dreams, the mental hell. For the fame or for the fortune, Or ripples dancing on the ocean. As autumn leaves fall from the trees, Cradled by an evening breeze. And when the truth is not yet known, This curse he knows is his alone. For the love, or for desire, Feeding fuel into the fire. What he does is done by choice, And silent is the silenced voice. Life is hard, the world is cold, Still he can't release the hold. So many years have passed by, He's come now to realize. Darkness not his enemy, For without - day would not be. When the sun sets in his head, Must he make the night his friend? Time goes by, out of control, And feeds upon this empty soul. True too this time, cannot spend, A lonely rhyme, a lonely end. To the shadows, reach my hand, For the hope of a promised land. To the oceans, to the skies, To the stars on blackest nights. Or for when the words might seem so dire, For faithful dreams, and dark desires. Written December 8th, 2001 © on Dec 07 2001 03:03 PM PST 0 • 10
