MIRAGE
By NanaBear
We can't blame men for wanting peace; some space, security. Though it cannot be gained by shutting eyes so we won't see That history moves today, as far as we can know, determine, At a terrific pace; does not slow down for even vermin! With almost an indecent haste, we're hustled in and out of childhood, youth, maturity, and age. We have no clout With death, who puts us in our graves before we are "prepared". There's nothing we can do about it. None of us is spared. Plainly, we were not meant to stay here for very long. We live midst constant combustion - literally - and can't prolong The ceaseless and remorseless process of our oxidation That surely, inevitably, NOT SLOWLY, makes "ash" - our consternation. We have no abiding kingdom here. All things built on the sand Of shifting time will fail, dissolve, and slip right through the hand Of anyone who foolishly assumes that he can grasp Security in this world. It's a mirage man cannot clasp. Written October 12th, 2000 © on Aug 26 2001 09:01 AM PST 0 • 9
