PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy, a pagan art, just causes conflagrationsWhen it is used to teach the Gospel throughout all the nations. It's practice bolsters not the truth, which needs no such adorning,And twists the minds of searching men, their budding faith suborningTo clever phrases, stilted thought, and practiced elocution. It gives no answers to life's questions; offers no solutions.Philosophers have searched for God but never could they find HimBecause, to them, He can't exists with all their 'laws' which bind Him.They say man cannot comprehend the Lord, as he's not able,With finite mind, to probe the infinite.  He's too unstable. But ancient Saints taught truths so plainly, and with understandingOf exactly WHO God was, that light broke forth commandingRespect of all who heard the news; the marvelous revelationThat Christ, the Son of God, had come in their own generation.Had lived and died and risen again to bring forth righteousnessAnd exaltation for all those who would to God confessTheir sins, repent, and follow Christ; to count all things as drossAnd valiant be unto the end, while carrying His cross. The faithful followers of Christ knew who His Father was. They needed no philosophy to explain Him.  But becauseWith passing time the valiant died, replaced by converts whoRemained true pagans in their hearts, rejecting what was true,The 'apologetic fathers', trained in all the pagan schools,Turned back to their philosophy... and proved themselves poor fools.God shows Himself to righteous men.  The wicked see Him not.But faith must be exerted first or even they cannot.Whenever man leaves solid rock to venture on the sand,Futility goes with his course and takes him by the hand. Thus do secular teachers, who would swim in philosophyIn place of true religion, quickly drown within that sea. There is no norm in philosophy to which men can be held. For reason's 'fatal weakness' is self-interest which has felledThe 'mighty oaks' of literature, of historiography. Not one is perfectly detached - they're conditioned totally.Their 'evidence' is but opinion they expound from out their headAs truth, the moment it pops forth, and by this they are led.Philosophy, not prophecy, rules in the world today,And shallow optimism replaces revelation when we pray.Where are the men who've SEEN the Lord; who've spoken FACE TO FACEAnd boldly testify he lives?  Do we, too, now replacePlain truth with words of sophistry because our faith is weak?Or do we say, 'It can't be done!' because WE do not seek?Speak not with affectation of the dialectical art,But simply state what you have seen and heard straight from your heart.Men need no skill of argument when filled with the Holy Ghost. For when they speak with power from God they move the entire hostOf men and angels who give ear.  Not so, philosophy. This pagan art can souls destroy for all eternity! © on Aug 26 2001 09:31 AM PST   0 • 13
