My Stomping Ground
By nhamo
My stomping ground, Zimbabwe. My countrymen sit with cheeks between their handsThe powers that are wave iron fistsCarefully wrapped between radiant smiles and extended vocabulariesThe man in charge repels changeBut hangs on to the strip of hair beneath his nose,The nose that smells decay, poverty and misery amongstThe builders of our beautiful land. The man in charge who repels changeBut hangs on to the retro spectacles that watchStarving kids, jobless fathers, Aids infested youth and queues of vehicles without fuel to earn a living. The man in charge who repels changeBut hangs on to colonial styled Suits that reflectA narrow mind that is educated enough to understandThe effects of a diminishing economy and withdrawals of global powers Like the hills of Mashonaland, change is comingChange is coming and democracy is raising its headHope is power and power breeds courage and prideMy stomping ground lies dormant beneath brown grass and potholesThe day is coming…The day is coming…'For those who do not know Zimbabwe is a country in Southern Africa and right the country is in a mess because of a militant president who is ruling the country. I'm a Zimbabwean living abroad and these are my observations.' Written September 20th, 2001 © on Nov 29 2001 08:51 PM PST 0 • 9
