Work is Doneholy smithereened careened buffalo &stone rangers with pickup truck eyes whoremember themselves as children beforethe first world war when they knew allthe words to I wish I was an oscar meyer wiener &the south pole remained untouched byany great white feet shoes or no shoes withice a mile thick over fossil forests ofghosts hardened in the act ofeating old indians in soldier's coats becausethe stories had all been slaughtered to clearthe way for iron and cats who were neverquite the same after all those books weredropped on their heads & walked funny everafter on their way to the coast with theirload of socks draped across their backs destinedfor shipment to the orient and a billion jumpingchinese building hotels in the face of tidal wavesto make a buck or two but some things are too heavy for young girls to change,like the past sofathers are given to save what they can from the damageeven when there is a ninety - eight year old womanon the horizen surrounded by too many hostiles& she is all alone & her work is done Written September 10th, 2001 © on Sep 09 2001 10:20 PM PST   0 • 10
