Dark Days

By Omni

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

As the dawn approached, fears of what the new day would bring. People hiding before the light, without knowing how or where the next blast would come. Some wondered whether the light would ever return. Tremors felt far and wide, heated rubble; dust caked eyes choke the tears. Spirits quelled memories of great moments and lost dreams. How far the great society has fallen... Only those who can travel with the mind, travel now. The sky now brightens to the dim red glow, sound of crumbling structures wake the weary. Children cry to the silence of missing parents, lost siblings. They don't know of better times, only the horrors of present day. Hearing the broadcasts fade in and out. People wondering how many are left, and if the living are more fortunate than those who past. Hope is the one comfort that can't be stolen, blasted or burned. For hope of a new day, waking from the nightmare, is all that keeps the masses moving. People trusted, people cared, people worked.... Never more many exclaimed, never more...
