Virgie (Fear of Seeing Myself)

By Pandora

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

To me she was old as old as you ever could be but the lines on her face gave her character and a dignity beyond anyone else I knew always in a dress and stockings even on wash day up to her elbows in a old wringer washer she ironed everything including her under garments they say I look like her the biggest compliment I've ever received but when she was no longer herself living in the past when she was aware enough to have a past I could no longer go to her for fear of seeing myselfFor my favorite grandma.
