'Sesame Street'

By Salty

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Can you tell me, How to get to Sesame Street? Where sunny days, Sweep clouds away. Where the air is sweet. And you got friends like..... Big Bird. Elmo. Oscar the Grouch. The Cookie Monster. And numbers are cool. Hah, hah, hah. Instead of..... 201 York Street. Where sunny days, Are darkened, By the hum of 9-5. Where putrid air, Smells like Cobra beer, And Oscar's trash can. And Big Bird? That yellow-toothed drag queen, Who thinks she's cute. Asking the local trade, To tickle her Elmo. And Cookie? I admire the monster. The bitch got her rent paid. But does she work? No. She just sits on that bench, Looking for another fix. All day. Phening for the price, She has given herself. And the only numbers I know. Are $350.00 a month. $8.00 an hour makes about... $50.00 a day, After taxes. And $50.00 x 7 days, Pays the rent. And I'm one less day, From being homeless. One less day from crawling. One less day from calling, 775-5370, My hero, Who's in love with this zero. Damn. I'm a number myself. An age. A social security. A birthday. A phone number. A driver's liscence. I am trapped by numbers. Suffocated by them. And my haven... Apt 602. Is only a mirage, Of my salvation. *Sing-songs* 'Can you tell me how to get...how to get to Sesame Street?' This was brought to you by the letters F&U and the numbers 6,0,2. Written September 1st, 2001 © on Oct 17 2001 09:52 AM PST   0 • 9
