Asleep

The smell of your presence, beautiful face Shape of your body, my fingered trace Wouldn't things have been easy If we'd learned to leave them be... Those were happy days, before turning memories Muted nighttime, our private revelries Adages of a life better lived. Your sleeping mind's eye Roll soft beneath your lids I wonder where you play, the curl of your lip That mischievous grin I saw in the early day Before the dreams stole you away In a vice like grip My daytime trance, As still as her clothes on the floor It would be a fine thing, If you still slept by my side Sleep the only robber of your once everpresence But long ago you awoke from our ephemeral time Taking you to some better place Away from me, and the eye of my mindPlease comment!
