Alone At Last

By Sharon

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Left alone at last my love, you holding my hand so tight. The doctor gave his final report, that I was losing this mortal fight. I feel my life slipping away; and see that truth in your eyes. You watch me with such tenderness counting all my breathless sighs. The last few months has made me glad, to leave this cancerous place. And the last thing I want to see in this life is your sweet and smiling face. With a moan I take my last breath my eyes tell you it is so and closing forever in this life I watch you let me go.
