The Lollipop Lady of Bellingham Square

By Sharon

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The lollipop lady of Bellingham Square Was found hanged in her garden today They said no one knew just how long she'd been there Cause of death is too early to say She spent all her days in a wandering haze Handing sweets to the kiddies in town You could tell from her face she'd seen better days No one knew what had brought her down As the gruesome news flashed all over the place neighbors stood in the streets just to stare Hoping for glimpses of her sad stricken face And a tidbit of gossip to share She handed out treats to all those who would smile As she walked round the town every day Always dressed like a dowd in yesterday's style She perfected the 'crazy' sashay. Some men cleaned her house and then shut it up tight She was buried her without any prayer So it's left up to me to sing the sad plight Of the lollipop lady of Bellingham Square Written December 24th, 2001 © on Dec 24 2001 01:03 AM PST   0 • 1
