My Greatest Fear (Challenge Submission)
By Slekky
Sleep conquers me and my dreams hold me prisoner as they immerse me into a dismal world where my deepest fears are conceived and laid before me in waves of torment In my subconsious mind I live a life of anguish that seems as real as my waking hours I watch you in the field playing and giggling your energy and strength astounding me but your laughter turns to screams and you cry tears of blood until the crimson liquid drips from your skin and stains my fingers but nothing I do can stop your demise as my helpless hands tremble and my cries for help go unheard I watch your once hopeful eyes glaze over with your impending death and as they look into mine pleading for solace I try to sing you into your eternal slumber but my voice abandons me and I realize I cannot offer comfort in your last moment of life As your body stops fighting and your heart stops beating flaming tears of fire fill my stinging eyes and my spirit is soiled with guilt like the scarlet stains upon my hands ................................ If ever you were torn from my arms my soul would bleed endlessly and crystal tears would freeze upon my cheeks to forever remain embedded on my mournful faceI didn't win this one :o( But I got a decent poem out of it :o) Written January 29th, 2002 © on Feb 01 2002 12:54 PM PST 18 • 0 • 1
