My Pet Turtle (A Challenge Submission)

By Slekky

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Once I had a pet turtle who thought he was a dog each day he chewed a milkbone before his morning jog I loved that turtle dearly he was my favorite pet but one day things went wrong his death, I'll never forget The day began as usual that blistry winter morn I couldn't help but notice he was looking quite forlorne Maybe if I hadn't fed him those fish scales instead of a bone he would be a happy turtle-dog If only I had known! He walked through the house aimlessly ignoring my every plea I begged for his forgiveness but he wouldn't listen to me Then that's when it happened the suicide from HELL he walked right in the mousetrap as it clamped down, I heard him yell He started to eat the turnips which the mousetrap gingerly held I knew he was allergic but my attempts to save him failed He began to choke and sputter until his final breath he did take with tears streaming freely A grave, I did carefully make Now as I sit by his tomb I cry out my little heart and I place a flower atop his grave in memory of my turtle, BartYay!!!!! I got runner-up! Written January 18th, 2002 © on Jan 18 2002 03:09 AM PST   0 • 14
