Family
By StrmDncr
This poem was written on November 1, 2001, as I attend the funeral of my Mother. I care not of ratings or comments, just the opportunity to put my thoughts down on paper… Not my best effort, but that’s not important right now… So read if you like and if you care to leave a note, I thank you. Otherwise, just leave it alone…. The lights no longer shine In the home of my childhood Where hugs were as warm As the home cooked fare Where family would gather On special occasions Now, only memories linger there The Christmas tree that graced the parlor My grandmother’s home baked bread Mom’s dry thanksgiving turkey “We should have gone out,” Dad said Aunt Jo and Uncle John on the holidays Too many cousins to keep score Taking photographs of the family Now strewn on my living room floor Each a treasure, a Kodak moment Smiling faces that warm my heart Some have moved, others gone forever Our family… scattered apart I look at my kids and their children And I am proud to say they are mine We’ll make our own, new memories Treasures for our life time Written November 8th, 2001 © on Nov 08 2001 12:14 PM PST, Pat Williams 0 • 18 • 10
