Dangling
By sueh
8 years old At the school playground I would climb to the highest rungs Of the jungle gym Dangle upside down Precariously Looking at the other kids Hoping they were Looking at me Seriously It was important To be recognized, to be accepted Just to be noticed Was worth the scrapes and bruises At 8 years old 30 years later, I’m still dangling here Maybe not upside down but Precariously Hoping to be taken seriously Looking for acceptance From my peers Curiously, it still matters to me It’s kind of sad How little has changed In 30 years I’m still that lonely little girl Looking at faces Hopefully Wanting to see what? I’m not sure Exactly Just hoping to see Someone else A little bit like me Written February 27th, 2002 © on Feb 27 2002 01:32 AM PST 0 • 9
