Her To-Do List

She's got a list on a wall or in her head: in the morning, first cigarette. wake the kids. bathe the kids. get them ready for school. Quick breakfast- black coffee, half a bagel and off to work- she's one of these babes you see putting make-up on in rush hour traffic work's a bore 8 hours suffocating in an office quitting time, happy hour three cocktails or maybe four her supervisor from the stifling job relaxes, a bit, loosens his tie and his tongue his flirting is ignored- she's heard and seen it all. Evening, kids, dinner, TV the latest tragedies on the news It's all the same to her. Put the kids to bed then bed for her another day of ennui and procrastination and meanwhile, a loaded pistol waits for her patiently. This was not the day but it is coming- perhaps tomorrow?
