Tears of Blood

By Sunnyone

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

It’s been weeks since the tragedy, but the horror is still embedded in our mind’s eye, and in our hearts the ache lives on.  We wake to the sadness, see it on the screen, and wonder at the questions posed to us by the countless images that we have become so familiar with now.  We each have something tragic that has touched us down deep, because of the events of last week.  Mine is the faces of the people still roaming the streets, searching for the husband, or wife, or friend whom they cannot find.  Each of those faces reflect the tears of the angels that were shed on that day............. the tears of blood.............. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That fateful day of hateful deeds, dawned bright and clear and new And time would soon unveil the murderous acts of but a few whose destiny in life was soon revealed in skies above ‘Twas on that day the angels wept, they cried their tears of blood... Our daily lives were shaken as we watched the towers fall The force of man’s destructive hate, proved strongest of them all A senseless act destroyed the lives of thousands, ever more Our lives and land would never be the same, like as before... The screams were heard around the world, the anguish rolled in waves But still a spark of hope returned with every life they saved So, work they did, without complaint, and many heroes died They gave their lives to save the ones still buried, deep inside... A week has passed, but still the sadness lingers every day The grief becomes the anger, indignation paves the way The ‘how’s’ and ‘why’s’ are known by those who wield this country’s sword But careful we must be, to not become what we deplore! And ‘Spirit’ is a word that now takes on protective hue Our strength is symbolized more now, by red and white and blue The blue is for the heavens, and the white for purity But the red is for the tears of blood the angels cried...you see... For every life we lost that day, a thousand more were changed Our dreams seemed scattered in the flames, and hopes were rearranged But like the Phoenix rising out of ashes...so are we! To stand together, and defend our home and keep it free! With open eyes and stronger hearts, we now will take our place Complacency is not allowed within this time and space So, side by side with allies, we will dam the hateful flood and pray that in some future time, there will be no tears of blood Written October 1st, 2001 © on Oct 01 2001 03:32 AM PST   0 • 9
