Letter from Jane Varley

By sweetbrother

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

It arrived last month sent from a house on distant plains to my house the one with a ceiling but no walls The time has come for my reply; today I cultivate my garden of friendship carefully- the luxury of sitting in a quiet room sipping my sorrow has passed; now, I reach out to other souls to fill my need Jane is a poet of landscapes; the poetry of places is new to my once isolated eyes the place Jane found when she visited where I live seemed to fascinate her the poetry of souls was shared between us in conversation and in silence At seven-thirty Sunday morning the kind church ladies have come and gone leaving gifts of sandwiches and coffee. These things have been set aside; the letter from Jane Varley rests on my blanket radiating warmth, giving me strength to rise for a brand new day.
