Oblivion

I sipped my oblivion gingerly at first, to savor my forgetfulness Then later tumbled in headfirst splashing and gasping then quickly sinking; trapped like a fly caught in amber, I struggled against its swift raging current but after strength dwindled, just rolled along its waves then lay broken on its rocks Beyond its surface I could see faces I had known pressed against a distant window they called to me, but had no voices And through that window I could see a world I had forsaken and retreated from in the cool shelter of my oblivion.
