I am Cam I twenty-six years old I sleep in alley behind CVS store You see me on corner by Metro stop I have cup in hand and a bright smile for you each day, even when rain come down Don't be fooled because I can't read; don't be fooled because I can't write; Don't think I stupid because I talk like toddler; I highly intelligent inside raggedy head You think I cute when I flirt and smile at you with gap between my teeth and long hair like black Jesus; you think it's cute when I get up from corner and dance for car radio stuck in traffic light Doctor says I dance because I bipolar and you not see me when I curl up in ball and cry all night Doctor says Mama made me what I am when I nestled helpless in her belly Doctor not know Mama love me and I send her prayers each night and where she is, she sends them back Today, I pray you buy me something good to eat because I'm nice. I dance for you or, you give me paintbrush and I make pictures for your children; Don't be fooled; I am talented, and highly intelligent Is a thousand people at my breakfast table; plenty of food but everyone hungry When I go to bed in alley think of me, smiling black Jesus at Metro stop; put me in your prayers- remember I danced for you today. For a friend...
