A day by the sea
I sit by the sea watching the sunrise, A colorful display of a new beginning It looks like a fire cleansing the world The sea whispers of hidden secrets, Luring the unwary to its cold embrace I sometimes wonder what lies on the other side I think of all the choices I’ve made All I’ve missed because I was too shy, All the times I’ve been used for being too kind The sun climbs higher, touching my face A warmth gently spreading inside me, Drying my unshed tears I hope I’ll find another source of heat, Something that will burn longer than a day When the night comes I’ll be cold again The wind flows around me, Bringing the scents of life and decay A reminder of the limitations of our existence I try to think of what the future will bring My dreams fading under the glare of the sun Nothing comes to mind, a void inside The day passes slowly on the desolate dunes, Still too quickly it’s over for me Nothing to fill the empty times I sit by the sea watching the sunset, A majestic finish to the glory of day It seems the night will claim me again Written August 22nd, 2001 © on Aug 22 2001 02:57 AM PST 0 • 1
