The Last Summer
By Tony Pacheco
Retrace my steps across the tracks, the grass grows the sidewalk. This is the last call for anyone who gives a shit about me. Get in line, take a number, and file your complaints elsewhere. There’s no room for happiness in my life and no room for me in yours. This is the end, I can’t give up on what I can’t have. Last summer we had something I’ve never had, a hint of hope and a handful of disappointment. The easy way out hurts the most hide behind what you can find. You and I are just alike, a little different from everyone else. You can’t turn me away if I don’t open up, delaying the inevitable, and a fight against fate. As long as I don’t ask you cant say no, waiting for rejection, losing all hope. Last summer we had something I’ve never had and will never have again…you.
