Eternal (Between Heaven And Hell)
By tristessa
I saw the demons dance at the fire of dawn With naked angels of golden curls And the tremor of a silent harp As the earth shook with silvered lightning's grasp. And the clouds stood quivering, ominous rage, And the goddesses of my goddesses' dreams Stood clothed in white and faded in air. And the ghosts of planets vanished from my sight, And frozen tears of angels fell, crystal and glass, To shatter meaninglessly on the footsteps I'd left; And the venom of the serpent, since been spent, Rained over my head, burned my chains to dust. And the blue voice of the sea became my siren song; And the monsters I've created swam enchanted as death, And heavens burst my vertigo to flames to purple ashes, And a wandering wind rustled and blew the twilight away. Until all there was left was a God and a tree And a Serpent wearing my eyes as he said to me: "You've seen the demons dance and the angels cry, And goddesses wither and fade to dust, And stars falling sadly from the sky, And the vast ocean turning to ice. You've seen the walls crumbling to the ground, And the earth's fires swallow them whole; And the sun as she novas in golden gasps, And the crosses burning to the sand. The deserts as they ripple, and the dunes becoming one, And the fires dying down, and the jewels turn to dust; And the moon so complacent in her deathly white stone, As she becons you to choose: your fate lies in your hands. "Furious, your god has stood As you've stabbed him in the back; Feasting on his lovely fruits He'd deny you once again. Come dance with me, girl, in the moonlight Of a faraway island of pearls, And find your seductions waiting; And we'll journey throughout these worlds. Don't take the hand of this empty vessel, The god who tells you lies..." And with a painted smile he looked away. And the god stood up, suddenly regal In glorious purple and virginal white The robes flowing like rivers, now dry And he said in a voice so thundering That it shook the mountains crumbling to his feet "The serpent in his jealousy Digs his shiniest fangs into my neck And like the monsters he's created, He partakes of my blood; But I have given it freely In a chalace of pure gold And I've sat upon my clouds an eternity as you've danced between heaven and Hell. But your mother fed you my Word; And your father, my Blood! And your sister gave you the sacrament And your Serpent gave you my fruit; And you've witnessed the war of the divinities And the laughter for each victory But all these battles a battle lost Whould you not now heed me..." And with a painted smile he looked away, And with his painted eyes he watched But the eyes were only mine And the paint was my own blood. And I looked up to my Nebulous The moon's white death, serenity And I lifted my arms to the starless skies and I danced in the moonlight alone For the God and the Serpent were only I, That person I'd all my life sought. And as I swayed they became one, And my mirror shattered to dust... Written March 22nd, 2002 © on Mar 22 2002 10:12 AM PST 18 • 0 • 10
