The heaven of her Presence

By Wesley Storer

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

To be in her presenceWas to be in HeavenShe was a Maryland girlFrom down around SevernThe essence of her presencelike sacred joys of Heavenand his bride of eternityWas she he chose to beFor a few precious secondsTheir star auras were blessedChaperoned to a Maryland barBy military merry makers from afar(they sat and drank cokes)He sent her a golden crucifixDangling from a golden chainFrom a base in GermanyThey met for a minute in 1966She was promised to an AdventistShe seemed so silent and sadAs he said his final farewellTo the heaven of her presenceThis poem is based on a true experience of mine, when I was 18 years old, stationed in the Army at Ft. Meade, Md. They bussed us in to J.F.K.'s funeral while I was there. It was a most solemn day. Written October 11th, 2001 © on Oct 11 2001 06:26 AM PST   18 • 0 • 8
