Wishing Well (Superstitions #1)
Beneath the mystic mountains, A girl stands at a fountain, Who's favors are we trying to assure, When we cast our pennies on the fountain floor. Are we making deals with demon kind, As we make wishes to relieve heart and mind. Or selling our souls to one who doesn't care, As we cast these coppers here. The voices of wishes cry out their woes, Who's ears they reach, I do not know. Wishes bought by greed, fears and heart, How did the wishing well get it's start? Did Cleopatra wish for Mark Anthony's love, Did some ancient soldier wish to be free of blood, A druid casting rues beneath the sky, Children lost outside of Neverland, asking why. As a child I heard of wishing wells, They've been around long, these ancient tales. All I am asking for is an answer to this, When you cast your penny, who answers the wish?Inspired by a short story called...Caretaking..by Kiriki Hoffman...a suggested very good read.
