Endless Wanderer
By YVenom
Oh Endless Wanderer in the night. Where do you travel now? What new horizons lay in sight? On seat of train, or near boat's bow, Travel, travel endlessly. No place to call home But, oh, so much to see! Endless grassland, ocean's foam Cliff horizon by moonlight; The lone warrior in silent repose. Alone, but so many lives you touch. Tales are told, your legend grows. An outcast, maybe, but you don't mind much, For you've done great things. One of the few with great miracles worked, Seen the edge of tomorrow on the wind's wings, Taken counsel and been bestowed the wisdom of the wise old owl. What tales did he have to tell? The stories of his nights on prowl? Did he share his lessons well? Oh Endless Wanderer with tools of trade Forced are you, excessively, to draw your warrior's blade? Enemies lie in wait, Not relenting in their persuit. The fighting seems endless like some bad date, But strength, neverending, you trudge on foot by foot. And by some this is considered the worst of all: To be denied some of the simpler things. A curse that follows you forever, till the day you finally fall. One might wonder how you could survive such a sting. But what you lose in love, you gain in life. Nature's secrets, gifts, and blessings, The infinite wisdom bestowed by time. To some small trinkets by far, But such beauty they may never know. Oh Endless Wanderer, so much I understand I understand the lonliness, how the pain will never go. I understand the heartache from the fanfare of the band As they play their woeful melody, Spiraling downward to darkness in their constant flow. I understand the longing to help them Only to be rejected as they bring themselves more pain. I understand that caring heart, that bleeding heart It cries to hear the problems solved, in vain, That plague this race of man. I understand the path you walk, Though full of pitfalls it may be. I understand because this same path fate has chosen for me. I struggle now to trudge on, you see, Your experience I've yet to gain. The old owl now shares his tales with me, His understanding of things could drive one insane. Endless Wanderer, I now wear that title well. I just hope I'll be as good as you And won't be beaten by my heart's own swell. May I finally succeed in helping others, too. I hope my life to be full and not hollow So that, like you, I'll leave good footsteps to follow. The rhyme scheme's a little off. I initially didn't want to go with one, but ended up doing so out of habit. So if it's not all that good, don't be too harsh, please.
