ASHES (for Grandmother) Her life now hung fragile like the ashes on the end of a held cigarette for years her stature seemed to dictate that one must smoke, those clouds swirling around her as she moved as chaotic as her life really was now she lay wrinkled and misshapen resembling the butts that were crumpled with fingers before the next link in the chain was added those fingers and lips the only flesh colored parts that remained stained by years of tars absorbed….. now clawed and gasped for the last remaining moments life was sparing the mortician awaited soon she would be ASHES © Copyright 2001 1st Poet Inc.
