Driven Six beers four AM and you are still there on my mind the dim lights the smoke in the air and the hard rock pounding my brain did not remove your memory as each bubble rose in my glass new thoughts surfaced of what we had those intoxicating moments and the hangovers of bad arguments all went to my head I got in my car turned the key cranked Joe Cocker’s “Unchain My Heart” and hit the highway 75 in a 30 gets you nowhere fast reflecting as the lights bounced off the windshield seeing everything around me double yet you clearly in the rearview mirror that red light of reality stopping me bringing me to the curb with skid-marks etched in my heart someday that open road will greet me where fields of amber will sway with every cleansing breath I take but for now I am driven to escape William S.
