No Virginia (there is no Santa Claus) I had many years of torn paper bows and ribbons strewn across the floor there were boxes of models sleds and wagons oodles and oodles of sweaters and undies yes I had many presents galore the sheltered child tempered so mild from Santa receiving a gift now I am much older and in speaking am bolder I must truly say I am miffed if I were good I got what I asked if given a chore I completed the task because on the morn when snow filled the skies I wanted many a gift to fill wakening eyes now I know that those were all lies I moved from that house with garlands of thought you know what I mean “those presents were bought” the day that I realized all was awry Santa was a fake, and reindeer can’t fly was the year that I left my parent’s fine home and no presents were delivered by elf or by gnome I had hung my stocking by chimney with care and woke in the morning to find nothing there I truly had been a good person that year so I sat in my chair and then shed a tear how could my parents have told me those lies that kept me looking into starry night skies maybe legends of old should be left to die for I sit asking myself these repeated why’s © Copyright 1999 1st Poet Inc.
