Snow Blanket

Snow Blanket Under a crystal canopy the earth appears to be sleeping White wisps whirl in the wind as the apple tree, barren peers upon red-cheeked children The grass, in slumber dreams of young lovers frolicking upon the carpet she provides A rock protrudes through cover unlike the red-soldier lichen (its normal shroud) that retreated to the onslaught The memories of droning bees hang like petals for the flowers, heads tucked in mother earth The ice upon the lake allowing mortals to walk on water another transformation of being I pull wool around my neck and study the portrait I possess trying to capture the cold in warm words For as chilling as the truth is sometimes death must touch life for new growth to occur The fire warms me as the snow blanket covers the earth and touches me from within William Dawes 1stPoet copyright Written January 1st, 2002 © on Jan 01 2002 08:59 AM PST 0 • 10
