Sacrifice

Sacrifice He said take this cup away take it from my lips take it away take it give it to some other son of god. It shouldn’t be this hard to ransom all humanity it shouldn’t fall on a single set of shoulders. If I offered this sacrifice I offered foolishness I offered a blind man’s vision I offered dust in a flagon. Let them bear their burdens by themselves let them cry their own tears let them pay their own price. Whose dumb idea was this anyway who thought I could come here as a mewling baby born among them and not become among them like they are, wounded before the knife afraid before the dark? It is too much it is too little it is too dark it is too unholy. Yet I have promised I have been promised I am given I have given me on their behalf like wine spilled on an altar like blood from a given calf. Take me away take away my own hard choice take away their sins some other way. Let me live to see suns and sons and the risen tides of my own blood thickened by my half humanity. Take this cup away from me or I will die willingly among them. Written February 25th, 2002 © on Feb 25 2002 02:17 PM PST   0 • 13
