Street Man
By Andrea
So alone in your gloomy world On a torn blanket your friend is curled Your dirty hands stretch out so far Do u often wonder who you are. There you sit with not much to say, but ‘Spare me some change if you can today’ How many pennies fall in your hat How many years in the same spot have you sat. Where did it go wrong for you Do you have a family who see you so blue, Do you sleep at night, do you dream Of better days and how they seem. Your special friend always at your side He’s got nowhere to run and nowhere to hide Do you cuddle up to him at night Do you let him know it will be alright. And when the winter nights are here No food, no fire but you’ve got your beer Onto that can you hold so tight A beer in the left hand, a fag in the right. Does sanity grip you at all Does the show go on till it’s your call The following day the show is the same Would you even know if I asked you your name. Your mood is the same every day Does happiness ever come your way Would your face hurt if you gave it a grin It would for a fag and a bottle a’ gin. The least I can do is pray the sun shines for you For the rain must bring misery and less pennies too I pray that you sleep under a roof at night And you never give up hope that tomorrow you see the light. 19/10/2001 Written by : Andrea Gill Dedicated to the Old Man at London bridge Tube Station Written October 19th, 2001 © on Oct 18 2001 10:34 PM PST 18 • 0 • 9
