Invent Yourself A Daughter

By Ashley Bright

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Devise yourself a shimmering daughter Sally Spreading herself over branches and graves Peeking, seeking another fortune So amiss in her nighttime daze And when she hangs limp from bricks and cotton Her blonde teeth will give reason for peril Down by her ankles, those freshly cut martyrs Begging, urging to be seen in her glow With her nipples feeding mouths to sustain  In every drowning crowd, Sinner Sally hangs Behind the walls, craving other words When a tongue as hers cut to starving cattle Slices in undertone bellies, fed to a seer princess And she’ll die, she’ll give birth once more Her Sunday mansion, swept behind ears to grieve Each one’s lungs and hearts kept in glass Served to beggars, to tramps, to gods at mass You’ve invented yourself a daughter for the world to roam Save me Sally, you slutty Sally, Praise me within your home And upon her whistle reigned lips, there she began to grin Daughter Sally paints, cries, and dies for all your sinsJesus Was A Blonde Written November 21st, 2001 © on Nov 21 2001 04:17 AM PST    0 • 1
