Ambition

By Barb Davidson

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Do we need it? Maybe not, Some say yes, It’s all they’ve got, They strive to gain, These self set goals, They live their lives, By strict held rules. What when they fail? How must they feel? To find these aims, Are not even real, It’s hard to know, When you must stop, You’ve gone so far, But can’t reach the top. What when they win? How can they cope? They’ve achieved it all, It’s a downward slope, No further climbs, Can they make, There’s only down, Their life can take. The best laid plans, You strive to meet, Can fall in ruins, At your feet, Best let things run, The natural way, Do what you feel, And not as they say. Take your time, Do your best, Achieve your goals, Let go the rest, You’ll find you’ll win, In all you do, Free from stress That hinders you. So take a positive, Look at life, Not ambitious aims, Filled with strife, Just give it all, But remember to see, It’s just a job, And won’t make you free.
