Don't shut me up!!!

By Barb Davidson

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I'm entitled to my opinions, My thoughts are mine you see, I can't be quiet or silent, I need to set them free. They rattle around inside of me, Whizzing round my brain, I'm not a one for talking, But silence gives me pain. I may not have a lot to say, But this way is my medium, Don't tell me kindly to hold my words, For silence is a tedium. I want to say the things i know, Not keep them bottled inside, That's how i felt a month ago, My feelings i'll not hide. I can't bear to be told to hush, I want to let you know, That my views count in all of this, And, i will always show. Supression is a nasty thing, It makes resentment grow, So don't tell me 'woman please shut up' For anger i will show. I am quite shy and not at ease, With the spoken word, But when i feel i need my say, I'll write what won't be heard, My poems are my thoughts you know, They come from deep inside, You may not understand them all, Please try, and don't from them hide. So please be kind and gentle with me, I'm learning,to set my thoughts free, I can't yet say them right out loud, But the time will come, you'll see.
