Past Lives
I heard him talking in the street, I stopped; I couldn’t move my feet, I’d known that voice, somewhere before, But years gone by, in days of yore. It made me cold, it made me shiver, My heart stood still, my lips did quiver, I turned and he just looked at me, He knew me too, that I could see, We stood, we looked, and then we embraced, My lover’s heart with a strangers face, He said you’re mine, I’ve searched for years, I didn’t know why, I had such fears. We talked for hours, as we used to, Not like strangers, but as lovers true, We walked, we talked, we kissed again, I loved him now as I did then. He stayed that night and all next day, We showed our love in a passionate way, He knew my mind, as I knew his, Our souls were bound, in those years we’d missed. We talked of lives both now and then, Of times gone by, of other men, He said his wife was beautiful, And he’d honour his vows unto the full. The time it came for him to go, He held me tight, I whispered no, I watched as he walked away, The sun never shone again that day. I won’t be sad, or hard, or mean, Our lives did cross on paths unseen, We know that we will meet someday, And when we do, I know he’ll stay….
