Pond Soup

By Barb Davidson

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

We started life as a lump of goop, Swimming in a pond of energy soup, Slowly evolving to a higher plain, Our advancement grew, along with our brain. We got to know our world well, The way it worked, its earthly smell, Learnt the things that mattered then, Till after a while we became men. Deep inside us, was printed the pattern, For how life evolves and what will happen, We communed with earth took what we needed, But never took more, moving on with speed. Skills were learnt to help us on our way, We had natural powers, in those days, Our lives took a change when the book men came, They wanted to control, for their own gain. We took our energy from others now, Losing the skills and our natural know how, Took to fighting to gain a power surge, Carnal behaviour became the urge. Took to the Bible, it gave us reasons, For being on this earth and following the seasons, Corruption and decay by god fearing men, Led to questions in the mind of others back then. We searched for knowledge, we’d lost our faith, Needed something else, to take its place, We turned to scientists and set them to learning, For knowledge we requested to quench our yearning. Time passed quickly and our knowing became smothered, With reasons and answers the real ways got covered, We learnt to take energy from our fellow men, Causing warring and fighting amongst them. The earth it was suffering, from neglect and misuse, Our greed and desires causing terrible abuse, Things are changing now for you and for me, We want the old ways back, how it used to be. We must return to the knowing to enable us to grow, For it’s with this wisdom that our futures will show, But that’s not all, there is more to come, The process of evolution has once again begun.
