Tree hugging

By Barb Davidson

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Today whilst talking to the trees A bird sat down upon my knee, We talked and talked inside my head, I'll tell you now the things he said. He told me that he wanted me, To go right up and hug the tree, He flew upon a branch up high, Then took right off into the sky. I stood and watched him as he flew, Through my eyes I saw the things he knew, I saw the moutains in the west, I watched us drink when he took rest. We flew through night and into day, Not worrying that we might be prey The monkeys in the forest knew, That he was me and I am you. The things he saw, I knew were true, Till home we came and down he flew, I held that tree oh so tight, And thanked the bird that gave me flight.
