If Anything is Lost
the door creaks open memories and smells and hugs from years gone by hit me at full force and you smile at me from your chair and everything is alright after the kisses and the stories and the dinner we sit in that room your room and we talk we talk about family and how things will be someday you ask for a glass of water so i get up anything for you and i fill the glass to the very top and put ice in just how you like it when i re-enter the room you don't look up you don't smile and faintly i hear you crying buried inside your arm crying inside your arm everyone else smiles and continues to talk just some crazy old lady she needs a nap but she looks up at me and her eyes are so wise i need to be held in those eyes those deep blue eyes i have always admired set in wrinkles and in pain but always so strong so strong i need for everything to be as it was i need you to be strong for me for me i need you to be strong Written November 26th, 2001 © on Nov 25 2001 10:24 PM PST 18 • 0 • 8
