A Girl Named Hilary
By birksy
My cleaner called Hilary, least I think that’s her name, You have to forgive me, they all look the same, Well, I gave her my best tip, a sure fire winner, Pray three times daily, I told her, and you’ll stop being a sinner. She smiled, looked quite thankful, said ‘Um’ a few times, ‘I’ll give that a try, sir, might negate a few crimes’, So I left her, still cleaning, hummed a tune up the stairs, Exempt in my own life, exempt from her cares. Then later, when I woke up, I went down for some tea, Picked up the paper, and said, ‘Bugger me’, If that’s not my own face looking back so saintly, And the headline, ‘Vicar’s secrets’ by a girl named Hilary.
