All the Dust
By birksy
All the dust and more, rises high above your head, don’t drown, Then settles on the floor, gives a flat dead tone to the crazy sound. You shuffle on the seat, and leave your coat around those willow arms, I feel the subtle heat, watch the street below for more gendarmes. Eyes are full of tears, but our hearts are holding out, so far, Cracks move across veneer, but none deep enough to badly scar. It’s time we must move out, tension’s got too much to bear, The bulbs shatter, now blackout, move beyond the door, the front warfare. We were once so safe, but now we’re on the run, don’t fall, Holes forming as they strafe, clouds of dust, must dodge the deadly spall. It stops, I look behind, see you’ve fallen, badly hurt, Go back, watch my shaking hand, turn red as I take your flimsy skirt. I can feel them close, take my gun, drop the catch and point, This is where I’ll stand, my last reason, slain, in such disjoint, As bullets fly through air, my body’s spun, and ripped and torn, I vow to meet you there, in the place from where we all are born.Do you think the rhymes are too forced? I'm not too sure. As ever, when I wrote it, I thought, 'this is great', but in the cold light of day, I'm not particularly impressed.
