Embrace
By birksy
The couple, locked in melancholic embrace, try to keep their cool, they face a hard time ahead. The workers shuffle chairs, Noisily they scrape across the tiles, Little care taken. While staggering passengers amble through swishing electronic doors, their eyes distracted by boards, and still more arrive. A phone breaks through the background noise, On the other end any of a million people waiting patiently. Business men walk with their precious cases, past the couple still in close embrace, they cannot break. Screens, all white and yellow and blue show messages that go unread, logos that go unseen. In the floor dull reflections with the scuff marks and cigarette ends give away some of what’s happened. And still as the life empties leaving only space, the emotions for us all, flow from that couple’s simple embrace. Written March 9th, 1998 © on Aug 06 2001 07:15 AM PST, Simon Birks 0 • 8
