Kingley Vale

There’s a grassy slope near where I live, And one wet day some friends and I, Climbed it, thought it’d be all right, Started late, and with great big strides, Moved up the face one at a time, With me bringing up behind. And at one stage about three quarters up, I felt my leg give from under me, And I did not start, nor cry, But just reached out with one desperate hand, And to this day will be grateful for, The man who caught it, who said nothing, and cursed me less. The man who caught my arm was my step-brother.
