Springtime (Challenge Submission)
By birksy
Among the stars a woodlark sings, A moonlit night, A morning brings, The frost, which smiles upon the grass But like so much will only last Until the bright day comes. A movement from within the trees An early bird, A gentle breeze, So much to do this springtime morn', But as I sit on natures lawn I watch the world go by. Perched high above the sun now glows On warming earth The people show, How glad the feel on naked skin, The warmth and pleasure which now begins To soothe their working limbs. Upon midday there is a time When church bells ring, And bluebells chime, A chorus where we all can sing, And chant aloft a feathered wing, That we all are here. The shadows hide the cool and calm No one to see, No one to harm, The weary traveller who is at rest, Who spies on us with an interest, Much less than we have for him. Please springtime stay for just a while, You warm our lives And hearts beguile, For though you will not last all year Embrace us now and show you’re near, And we will not forget. Let dusk bewitch the social air, With light serene, And conscience fair, For through this nearly silent time One sound has been in all mankind. The woodlark stayed and sung.
