The Children On The Beach
By birksy
The children on the beach, they stand almost in a row, but now the sun's going down, they're tired, can do little more than make footprints that the wet sand slowly devours. They know that home is nigh, that a day of laughter and adventure must be followed by that of calm and sleep, but still they test nature with a fleeting move and run, a peel of screams, splashing cool water, a friendly slap on the back. Parents stand on the promenade, they talk and watch, too, happy that their children are happy, and then in turn, with lazy motion, they signal them back for tea.
