The Never Man
By birksy
There's a long face at the window, has tears that never show, Waiting for the never man, watching through the snow, He's heard him walking in the night, heard his brush upon his teeth, Now he thinks he might just come, holds a stick as blind belief. Keep a light on in his hallway, he has to see it if he wakes, He knows there is a never man, he knows he's not a fake, Please tell him why you do it, so he can understand, Why in the cold grey mornings, you're in another land. It didn't use to be like this, used to see him every day, Laughing on his shoulders, laughing while they played, Now the toys sit simply idle, they're no fun with only one, Just thrown against the empty wall, coloured rubbish they've become.
