The Workmen Sat Outside My Window
By birksy
The one that looks like a toad rolls down the window, grins out like an idiot, maybe he’s seen a fly he can eat, maybe he just needs to stretch his legs. I thought they were statues, or just playing dead fishes, but they do really move, both arms and both legs, in fact when the van comes, they near enough run. But there they are now, just sitting and smoking, lungs full of dust, full of tar, and red stuff, if tomorrow they’re there, I’ll knock on the window, just to make sure they’re alive.
